By creating space for Sundbyberg’s town hall, in Hallonbergen, the nearby districts, Lilla Ursvik
and Järva, can be more connected with Hallonbergen.
Sundbyberg Town Hall is a node for administration and a center of power, however it is geo-
graphically isolated in Hallonbergen. As the different districts are already connected by greenery,
a future park placed next to the Sundbyberg’s town hall will serve as core element in the new
urban plan.
The urban plan also consists of new neighborhood housing and additional infrastructure that will
exploit the area, creating a more dense city center. The new neighborhoods will frame the park.
Existing main streets are redirected to give priority to pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Enköpingsvä-
gen and Ursviksvägen are being transformed into city streets where public activities operate on
the ground floor of the surrounding properties. Supporting functions such as grocery stores,
pharmacies, businesses, services, etc. are distributed in the neighborhood houses along the new
main streets.
The park and the courtyards together become a connecting piece of the puzzle for the green con-
nection between the nature reserve at Igelbäcken and Råstasjön. Vegetation is integrated along car
roads, walking paths, the neighborhood’s courtyards, square environments and the large park area.
The proximity to greenery is essential as it has a recreational and ecological value.

“The people’s park in Malmö” - The
park area is inspired by the typology,
Folkparken and Folkparksrörelsen,
a movement and phenomenon that
began in the early 1900s and had its
glory days during the mid 1950s.
Folkparken has its history from
being both an amusement park, dance floor, park theater, etc. as well as a place to gather for social and political events.
Grid plan
During the late 1800 many Euro-
pean cities, such as Vienna, were re-
planned after city blocks and a grid
plan. The city plans were based on a
classicist tradition with rectangular blocks arranged in a large-scale system of street axes and boulevards. It combined the demands of the time for a representative cityscape with space more light, air, increased traffic and improved hygiene.
