THREAD CAREFULLY
2024
Competition entry for Museum of Emotions #4, an idea competition. Purpose was to design a museum comprising two contrasting exhibition halls: one designed to induce negative emotions; the other designed to induce positive emotions. The project site is a fictive cityscape.
Collaborative work with architect Maja Nordblom.
CONCEPT
Thread carefully revolved around the theme, yarn and threads. We worked with tactility and materials in order to enhance the contrasting emotions.
3D - printed rammed earth walls is mimicking the texture and form of threads.
In order to feel disconnection and loss of orientation to the space, the negative exhibition hall is shaped like a labyrinth with high walls.
The space is cold and wet, with a few sources of light to enhance the tactility of the rammed earth and the size of the space.
The two exhibition halls are connected through a joined pilar system and light shafts, letting some stray of daylight to the otherwise enclosed groundfloor.
The positive exhibition hall is an open and light space.
The whole exhibition hall is built up by patchwork of knitted surfaces to create a dynamic and organic landscape that feels like a warm embrace of a knitted sweater.
