New intervention, and interior design.
This project is a site-built interior addition that is part of a new construction for a mountain cabin in
Storhogna in Vemdalen, Sweden. The interior addition is a kitchen for the mountain cabin.
Storhogna is a small village in Vemdalen where forest meets high mountains. The mountain cabin is lo-
cated high up in the woods, with views over the valley. The mountain cabin is designed for a large family
and is intended to be used as a mountain cabin all year round; hiking in the summer and alpine skiing and
cross-country skiing in the winter. The mountain cabin is a contemporary reinterpretation of a traditional
timbered mountain cabin and is intended to blend in the landscape and be a natural part of the cultural
heritage. Cross-laminated timber and wooden elements are throughout both exterior and interior, as an
acknowledgement to traditional wooden construction and craftsmanship. The exterior of the mountain
cabin has a more robust construction and finish to withstand extreme weather conditions. When it comes
to the interior, materiality, wood craftsmanship, fine details and meetings between materials are in focus.
The kitchen cabinets and island consists of natural oiled oak and Bjärlöv granite countertops.
